Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20, 1964) was an American lawyer, politician and vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female to be elected vice president, and also holds the title of highest-ranking female officer in American history. A part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and as an United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. Harris was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and then she was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior member of the United States Senate from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. She was a senator who advocated for healthcare and federal de-scheduling cannabis. A pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally recognized. The DREAM Act bans assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her most well-known accomplishments are her pointed questions of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
